Cholesterol is both good and bad. At normal levels, it is an important substance for your body. However, if glucose concentrations in the blood are too much, it becomes a silent danger that triggers your risk of a heart attack.

High cholesterol occurs when the cholesterol level in your blood is high. People who have heavyweight are at risk of high cholesterol. If you are overweight, you most likely have a higher level of triglycerides and if you don't exercise frequently it can lessen your HDL (good cholesterol).

The liver makes cholesterol, but you also get cholesterol from some of the foods you eat. When your intake of these foods is high it can increase your cholesterol level.

Symptoms of high cholesterol levels are.

• Feeling full.

• Slurred speech.

• Dizziness.

• Unsteady gait.

• Feeling pain in your lower legs.

• Chest pain.

Some of the foods you consume that can increase your risk of high cholesterol include.

1. Fried foods

The oil used in frying foods such as fried potatoes and yam are high in saturated fat, this makes too much consumption of these foods a risk factor for high cholesterol.

2. Trans fat

These are bad for you and can be found in packaged snacks such as pastries, cookies, crackers, and some types of margarine. Consuming these things excessively can cause high cholesterol levels.

3. Dairy products

Consuming whole-fat dairy products can have some side health effects by raising your LDL cholesterol levels. This is because they are high in saturated fat and cholesterol.

4. Butter

Consuming a lot of butter may lead to weight gain and could play a role in increasing your levels of LDL cholesterol. Butter contains a high amount of calories and fat, it is, therefore, advisable that you should consume butter in moderate amount or replace it with healthy unsaturated fats.
