Stress is a feeling of being unable to cope with mental and emotional pressure. It is usually caused when you are worrying about things, facing big changes, when you are under a lot of pressure.
Do you know what happens in your body when you are stressed?
When stressed, automatically the body responds. The blood vessels begin to constrict, your blood pressure and pulse rises rapidly. You tend to breathe faster and your bloodstream begins to be filled with certain hormones like adrenaline. When this happens, if you had sicknesses like asthma, obesity, heart infections (diseases), diabetes, depression, anxiety, gastrointestinal problems, headaches, Alzheimer’s disease they start getting worse.
How then do I avoid stress?
Trust me, stress can be managed if you follow the below tips.
Take breaks when necessary: Before you feel extremely exhausted, take some breaks. Life goes on if you work yourself to death. Now, I didn’t say you shouldn’t work, what I mean is while working when you feel like your strength is failing you, take a break in order to regain strength to continue.
Practice some self relaxation techniques: Just as I encouraged you to take breaks when necessary, you also need to practice some self relaxation during your break period. Take a stroll outside the environment you were so that you can obtain fresher air and take slow deep breaths. Some self relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation, massage, art and music therapy should be practiced always.
Set realistic goals and expectations: Set goals you can achieve in a day. While planning your day or week, it’s expected of you to be realistic in the kind of things you want to achieve based on your strength.
More importantly, do not hesitate to ask for help from neighbours, colleagues, siblings or spouse when the need arises.
